This century-old heritage home or bungalow has now become the best place to stay in Thekkady. This Thekkady homestay is ideally located at a lush green cardamom plantation, developed by one of those historic planters, Late KK Kurian Kalarickal. He was a pioneer in plantation business who literally curated these beautiful agricultural and living spaces which is now been converted to an exclusive Thekkady homestay. It was such a natural and rough terrain, where the wild elephants used to pep in quite often. Hunting was the best sport which was not just a pass time, rather a self-defence which every planter used to involve to keep their estates away from wild encroachments.
Today the historical value of this plantation bungalow has become an added more attraction for a perfect Thekkady homestay. Aesthetically managed by the next generation of owners, Dr. Mathew Samuel Kalarickal and his son Sam Mathew Kalarickal, this cardamom estate and this bungalow have now got a lift with renovations to bring modern amenities that suit the classy vintage ambience.
Kalarickal, made in 1918 by KK Kurian has employed almost five generations of local families. The Bungalow and the estates was once a landmark of the rich plantation tradition of Idukki. Made with natural clay plaster and teak roofing, this ideal heritage home has everything that you expect from a typical Thekkady homestay experience.
